Procedures for applying for a Bursary.
CDYSB has set aside a limited budget each year to provide bursaries to youth workers wishing to participate in accredited training that is immediately relevant to their work as youth workers.
To avail of the bursary it is necessary to complete a 'Bursary Application Form' available from the administration office in CDYSB or through the local Liaison Officer. The bursary application form should be accompanied by any additional information available giving details of the course including college, syllabus, certification, duration.
The application will be processed and submitted to the Board by the Development Officer for Training. The bursary application must be recommended by the Board of CDYSB and approved by the Committee of the CDVEC. Allow at least six weeks from the time of receipt of the application in CDYSB for this process to be completed.
Upon approval by the Board the applicant will be notified in writing and given 50 per cent of the grant. The remainder of the grant will be given at the end of the academic year when the applicant presents evidence of successfully completing all assessments for the course.
Where a course is longer than one year's duration then approval will be given by the Board for the full duration of the course. It will be necessary for the applicant to contact CDYSB upon enrolment for each subsequent year with evidence of enrolment on the course, e.g. copy of a student card for the relevant year or a letter from the course co-ordinator.
Upon submission of this information the applicant will be given the first half of the bursary for that year. The second half of the bursary can be claimed at the end of each year upon presentation of evidence of having successfully completed all assessments for the relevant academic year.
Where an applicant has been approved for a bursary for a course of longer than one year's duration the onus is on the student to apply for the grant for subsequent years.
Failure to apply means that the student will have to reapply to CDYSB for approval for the bursary.
Where a student has not successfully completed all assessments for an academic year it will be necessary for them to submit a letter of explanation, endorsed by the course co-ordinator, before the second half of the bursary for that year can be issued.
