It is part of the CDYSB role and ambition to constantly improve the standard and quality of youth work provision to young people. By supporting training that is accredited, CDYSB seeks to ensure that training in areas important to youth work are delivered to the highest validated and demonstrable standards. In this regard CDYSB has sought to design such training where none was available.
The training unit issues a regular bulletin giving details about training that has taken place and offering information on training courses accredited and otherwise that it has identified as being of value to youth workers.
For further information about these and any other courses contact your Liaison Officer or the Training Unit in CDYSB.
Accredited Training
FETAC-accredited training courses are run by CDYSB and other youth organisations operating in Dublin.
Practice Teachers
CDYSB in association with DkIT is delivering training to youth workers who wish to act as practice teachers for students on placement from the DkIT course in youth work. A number of these practice teachers have opted to take part in specific training that is accredited by DkIT which will result in them obtaining a third level credit.
First Aid
It is important that youth workers have this skill and to a basic certifiable standard. CDYSB will grant-aid any workers wishing to obtain a First Aid qualification from training delivered by a recognised agency. Where sufficient leaders are interested, CDYSB will commission a recognised agency to deliver training for that group.
Outdoor Pursuits
Outdoor pursuits provide a valuable opportunity for youth workers to engage with young people in a way that is fun and educational. To do so youth workers must have the basic qualifications necessary to properly manage these activities. CDYSB is glad therefore to offer grants to support youth workers to access qualifications including qualifications such as Mountain Leadership.
'Keeping Safe' Training for Trainers in Child Protection.
CDYSB in conjunction with other youth work organisations and the Volunteer Development Agency NI has delivered training for youth workers wishing to acquire the skills necessary to deliver basic child protection training at local level. This course is certified by the Northern Ireland Open Colleges Network.
CDYSB continues to work in partnership with other youth work organisations and the National Child Protection Unit in the development of accredited training in this important and sensitive area.
