Support Services for Management Committees
1. Mentoring
Following completion of basic management committee training or any of the interventions listed below, the resource person may adopt the role of 'Mentor' to the committee. In this role the mentor will visit the committee on a regular basis to talk about their progress. Frequency is agreed between the trainer and the committee.
As a mentor the resource person may discuss, advise or challenge the committee around issues that are of concern to it. Mentoring provides specialist support to a management committee in a way that facilitates them to learn while doing.
2. Review and Planning.
A resource person is assigned to the project committee to assist it review its work to date and to plan for the future. This service is normally sought when there is significant change in the make-up of a committee or when the committee with the advice of the Liaison Officer feels that such a review is necessary.
3. Facilitation/Troubleshooting
The resource person assists the committee to address difficulties or obstacles that are impeding its development or its operation in the community.
4. Crisis Intervention
When the unforeseen happens in a way that is tragic it can have a profound effect on youth workers and young people alike. Resource people can swiftly be made available to help those concerned to deal positively with the emotion, upset and practicalities arising from the event. This may require group work, one-to-one support or counselling.
5. Training Audit
Assist the committee to identify and respond to the training needs of staff or targeted groups within the community.
6. Specific Training
Training is provided to the committee on a particular area of knowledge or competency e.g. committee member roles, managing meetings, interview skills, research, financial matters
